We drive on a scenic country road to Nuwara Eliya, the highest town in the island (ca. 2000m). The route offers breathtaking views of valleys, waterfalls, meadows, mountains and tea plantations. Nuwara Eliya, nicknamed "little England," reflects its colonial heritage with buildings reminiscent of English architecture. This place was often chosen by British rulers as their holiday retreat. Today's program takes you to the unique Horton Plains National Park, nestled among the highest mountains of the hill country. Situated over 2000m above sea level, the plateau of Horton Plains is home to a diverse range of endemic flora and fauna, including rare orchids, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and numerous bird species (UNESCO). One of the park's main attractions is Baker's Waterfall. The most remarkable feature of the serene and mysterious world of the plains, however, is "World's End". Here, the plains come to an abrupt halt, leaving you suspended over a sheer drop of 880 meters . Afterward, a scenic drive will take us back to Nuwara Eliya. You can then enjoy and unwind in the evening at your hotel.

<span>Day 10</span>Buduruwagala - Kataragama

Buduruwagala, located 5 km from the main road to Tissamaharama, gets its name from the Sinhala meaning "rock with Buddha statue." The site showcases seven Mahayana Buddhist carvings, including a 15. 5 m tall Buddha statue at the center. These carvings are the world's tallest after the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddha statues in Afghanistan in 2001. In the afternoon, visit Kataragama, a holy city revered by Hindus, Buddhists, and Muslims. It exemplifies religious harmony on the island.

Discover the unique combination of wildlife in the country! We embark on a safari to Yala National Park at the crack of dawn in 4x4 Jeeps. As the second largest and most-visited national park on the island, it is a paradise for numerous bird species, mammals, reptiles, and other small inhabitants. The highlight of the safari is observing Ceylon's "Three-Bigs": elephants, leopards and wild bears. The park's water holes are favorite spots to watch crocodiles, elephants, and aquatic birds. Today's program takes us along the south coast, where we can explore the stunning coastal beauty and picturesque landscapes of southern Sri Lanka. Galle is a remarkable example of a fortified city constructed by Europeans in South- and Southeast Asia, showcasing the fusion of European architectural styles with South Asian traditions. The Galle fortress, built by the Dutch during their rule from 1656 to 1796, is the largest and most secure fortress in Sri Lanka, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

In Balapitiya, a fishing village, our first stop is a boat trip along the Maduganga River. Experience the beauty of the islands, mangrove forests, Lotus flower fields, wildlife, and traditional island life. Don't forget to visit a sea turtle hatchery in Kosgoda. You'll learn about their habits and habitats and get to see the adorable hatchlings before they are released into the sea. Take a moment to observe and appreciate these captivating creatures.
