Among the endemic plants found in Horton Plains are the vibrant Rhododendron arboreum subsp. zeylanicum, known locally as "Nelu", and the striking Dendrobium maccarthiae orchid with its delicate blooms.

Visitors may catch glimpses of elusive endemic creatures such as the shaggy-coated bear monkey, known as the Purple-faced Langur (Trachypithesus vetulus), Arangaya – Sri Lanka Whistling Thrush (Myophomus blight) identified as one of the endangered bird species, and the rare 'Ang Katussa' – Rhino-horned lizard (Ceratophora stoddartii), which can be seen in the evenings roaming around the branches of trees. The graceful Sambar deer (Cervus unicolour) grazing amidst the lush vegetation is a common sight. With extreme luck, you might also spot the park’s big cat, the leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya)
