Frequently Asked Questions

Travel Planning

Soba Ceylon does not typically book flights for clients. We recommend booking your own flights directly for greater control, flexibility, and cost-effective options tailored to your needs. However, if you insist, we can assist with flight bookings for an additional fee.

For round trips or multi-destination travel, book at least 30 days in advance to ensure availability and prepare for complex itineraries, especially during peak seasons. For single-day excursions, a 48-hour lead time is generally sufficient. However, for customized tours or specialized arrangements, book at least three months ahead to allow for meticulous planning and coordination. Regardless of the booking type, secure reservations as early as possible to guarantee availability, access a wider range of options, potentially receive better rates, and avoid disappointment, particularly for popular destinations or high-demand periods.

When planning a Sri Lanka trip, consider airline options for flights into Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo. Sri Lankan Airlines offers direct flights from major hubs as the national carrier. Other international airlines like Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Thai Airways operate flights with connections through Middle Eastern or Southeast Asian hubs. From Europe or North America, carriers like British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, and Air India provide indirect routes with stopovers. Explore various airlines based on travel duration, layover times, cost, and personal preferences for airline services. Online travel platforms can help compare flight options and find suitable itineraries. The choice depends on departure location, travel dates, budget, and desired amenities.

The tour itinerary typically concludes after breakfast on the final day at the hotel. It is advisable to book your return flights departing in the evening to accommodate the tour schedule. The majority of our round-trip tours conclude in the southern coastal region of Sri Lanka. We arrange for a departure transfer, which takes approximately three hours from the southern coast to the airport. Once you have confirmed your booking for the tour, please inform us, and we will facilitate the necessary arrangements for your seamless departure. Rest assured, we will ensure ample time for your transfer, enabling you to catch your evening flight comfortably after the tour’s conclusion.

Sri Lanka offers a wide variety of accommodation, from five-star hotels to guesthouses. Luxurious boutique hotels and camps can be found in most tourist hotspots throughout the country. Many tourist areas also have award-winning boutique hotels and spa resorts. However, accommodation in beach hotels and other places can fill up quickly, particularly during high season, so it is recommended to reserve your accommodation as far in advance as possible.

Room upgrades may be possible within the same hotel, subject to availability and at an additional cost. Inform us if you desire an upgrade, and we’ll explore available options aligning with your preferences. However, upgrades depend on occupancy levels and inventory at the time of your request. We aim to accommodate upgrade requests to enhance your stay while adhering to policies.

The standard check-in time for accommodations is typically in the afternoon, around 02:00 pm. However, many establishments offer flexibility and allow early check-in if rooms are available, permitting access before the designated time if requested in advance. If an early arrival is anticipated, booking the accommodation for the previous night ensures your room is ready upon arrival, avoiding delays and maximizing convenience.

The standard check-out time is 10:00 am on the departure date. Guests may request a late check-out, subject to availability and the hotel’s discretion, based on occupancy levels and incoming reservations. To ensure a smooth departure, guests should inquire with the front desk about a late check-out well in advance. The hotel will assess the situation and inform guests accordingly, based on occupancy status and operational needs. Open communication and adherence to hotel policies ensure a seamless check-out experience while maximizing time at the property.

Yes, laundry facilities are available at all tour hotels, but at an additional cost. Turnaround time is typically within 24 hours, but verify the timeframe at each hotel, especially for one-night stays. Consider the time required for the laundry service to guarantee that your clothes are ready before your scheduled departure.

Travel Documentation

Visitors to Sri Lanka must obtain a tourist visa. The process is streamlined through an e-Visa system at https://www.srilankaevisa.lk/. Apply for the e-Visa after receiving our final confirmation, around 30 days before departure. You’ll need to enter the address of your first hotel, which we’ll provide with the confirmation.

Technology and Connectivity

While in Sri Lanka’s urban areas and major tourist destinations, internet access is widely available through Wi-Fi services at hotels, restaurants, and internet cafes. However, in remote or wilderness areas, connections may be slow or non-existent due to limited infrastructure. Travelers should plan accordingly, manage expectations, inquire about accessibility at specific locations, and make necessary arrangements if uninterrupted access is required during their trip.

Wi-Fi is available at most of your accommodations in Sri Lanka, allowing you to share updates with family and friends back home. However, Wi-Fi strength may vary by location and property. Most of the hotels offer free Wi-Fi. If needed, consider purchasing a local SIM card from providers like Mobitel or Dialog for competitive data plans to stay connected across the island without roaming charges.

Mobile phone services are robust in Sri Lanka, and you should be able to get mobile phone reception in most places when traveling, unless you are in one of the wilderness areas. Guests are advised to check with their mobile phone operator before traveling regarding the charges.

Memory cards are available in most large cities and towns. However, there is no guarantee of availability, the quality may vary, and it is recommended that you bring your own.
